May 28, 2013: Nora's First Week

We found out on Monday that we were headed to the hospital the next morning for my c section.  Because my symptoms got worse the weekend before and Nora was now 37.5 weeks, they decided it was better to get her out.  It was very odd going into the hospital not being in active labor.   I think it also made me a little more nervous, although overall I was still just so excited to get to hold my baby and find out if it was a boy or girl!  Nick was the first to peek over the curtain and tell me if it was a boy or girl when they pulled her out.  Nick was convinced it was a girl, and I think I almost didn't want to think about it because I was secretly hoping for a girl :)  Even during the prep for the c section, Nick and I were still arguing over boys' names...we just couldn't agree.  We finally just decided to wait and see if we even needed to debate a male name...and thanks to Nora we didn't!  We had both fallen in love with her name weeks ago, and when she came out it just seemed meant to be :)  While I was getting to recovery, Nick went to tell the family that we were okay but didn't tell them the gender until they came in the room so that I could be a part of sharing the big news.  Here are the grandmas on the way to come meet Nora for the first time...
Aunt Linds took the day off to meet her newest neice...
Meeting the family...

The kids on their way to come meet Nora.  Liam has moved to the back row so that Bryn and Nora can sit in the middle row, making our Highlander feel very "mini-van"ish :)

I can't describe how excited the kids were to meet Nora.  Unprompted, Bryn leaned over and told her "I dreamed about you".  Liam has asked to hold her over and over and is the first to call out "It's okay Nora!" anytime she makes a peep...
Nick surprised me with one of my favorite gifts ever...
A #3 necklace for my third baby :)
Nora got Bryn a Cinderella coloring kit and Transformers for Liam.  Liam was very curious as to how she was able to hide those in my belly :)

Feeling like a mommy of three :)
One afternoon, Nick took the kids to McDonalds before coming to visit us at the hospital.  It was Liam's second time and Bryn's first happy meal so this was definitely a big treat...
Bryn has been the best helper, especially with diaper changes.  In fact sometimes she reminds me that Nora needs a diaper change!
Liam's note for Nora when we came home...
Home from the hospital!
Liam was so excited to hold Nora and love all over her...although that stopped when he spiked a fever the night we came home from the hospital (and then tested positive for strep over the weekend!) :(  He hates the taste of his antibiotic but takes it because we remind him that if he wants to hold Nora he has to get healthy...
More visitors to meet Nora over the weekend...

Since Liam was home under the weather and Nora and I couldn't do much, Daddy had some special time taking his first daughter on a date to the mall...
Nora's first bath (given by Mallie because mommy could barely stand up at this point)...

Snuggling sisters...
On Memorial day, we had our first family outing...to Dallie and Mallie's house :)  The kids made cookies with Tippy...
and Liam got to play with their dog, Copper, who was also in town with them...
The kids wearing their big/little brother/sister shirts made by Tippy...
Nora went to the doctor's yesterday for her 1 week check up.  She was back up to 6 lbs and doing awesome.  Now that I finally understand her nursing pattern, she is doing much better sleeping 3-4 hour stretches.  She has a few quiet, alert periods during the day where she just peers around, seeming to take all our chaos in :)  She really only cries when she's hungry and so far* is our calmest, easiest baby yet!
*yes, I totally just jinxed it :)
